O people! What evil temptation lured you away from your Lord, who created you, proportioned you, and endowed you with an upright form? He molded you into whatever form He willed; yet you deny the Day of Judgment. Behold, there are watchers guarding over you, noble guardians, who record all that you say and are aware of all that you do. Verily the righteous shall dwell in delight, the wicked burn in Hell. (Qur'an 18: 6-14)
Once a powerful man of Basra detected the beautiful wife of the gardener as he strolled in the courtyard. Overcome by lust, he sent the gardener on an errand and ordered his wife to lock all the gates.
"I already have," she replied, "but one gate I cannot."
"And which one is that?" he asked furiously.
"The gate which lies between the two of us and Allah." Shaken by the answer, the man instantly pleaded with God for mercy.
